Google 上月底宣佈禁止所有 Chrome 的 Windows 版用戶，在 Web Store 以外的地方安裝 Chrome 的擴充元件，這措施將會進一步推展至所有 Chrome 瀏覽器。Google 日前宣佈將會在今年夏天，禁止所有平台的 Chrome 用戶在 Web Store 以外地方以 inline 形式安裝擴充元件。

Google 表示 Web Store 的簡介和功能列表有助用戶在安裝前作出選擇，透過這方式安裝的插件，卸載的機會亦較少。由即日起所有新遞交的擴充元件，Google 都不再容許 inline 安裝，而現有的擴充元件，inline 安裝功能就會在 9 月 12 日起被移除。屆時用戶就算在開發者的網站點擊安裝擴充，亦會被帶到 Chrome Web Store。到了今年 12 月 Chrome 71 推出時，Google 就會將 inline 安裝的 API 移除。
